Finding Simple And Easy Baby Shower Menus

Posted: Jan 31, 2012 |

]]>

Choosing the proper foods for the baby shower may be quite a stressful predicament. Options related to baby shower menus are only a few that you'll want to make. If you're opting to prepare the food by yourself instead of catering, be aware that some work is going to be involved. Getting the right menu will add to the success of the shower.

Guest List

Consider the total of guests which will be present at. Decide just how much cash to plan for the food. When you have over 50 guests coming, you most likely will not wish to fork more than a ton of money for caviar and wine. Nevertheless, if it's a little gathering of a few close family and friends members, then splurging on the menu, a bit, probably will not hurt.

Regarding your guests, the number isn't the only thing to think about. Select the palates of those attending. If they're utilized to fine cuisine, you'll not want to break out the hot dogs and potato salad. Nevertheless, if the shower will probably be more laid back with individuals attending who enjoy consuming that type of foods, then it could be much more appropriate.

]]>

Budget

Another consideration for preparing baby shower menus will be the quantity of money you're operating with. This is straight associated towards the quantity of individuals you should feed. For anyone who is tight on the cash, it may be ideal to limit the menu to cake together with two or three other foods. This provides a little of variety for the guests while nonetheless keeping things inexpensive. Finger foods like pigs in the blanket, chips and nuts work well for all those that can't spend an excellent deal for the food.

Work

Think about the work load you need to put in. In the event you will be preparing most of the food, you might be on time constraints. Consequently, it's best to choose recipes and options that do not require a great deal of time. Things that may be cooking while you make others like pies and brownies will help you save your time when having some other foods ready for the special occasion.

The Guest of Honor

Consider the favorite foods that the mom-to-be loves. Is there a thing that she has been wanting that she would love to get at her unique occasion? In that case, think about generating this dish for her. After all, the baby shower is there to celebrate the parents as well as the pending arrival. You are able to make the day far more special by cooking foods that she loves.

Preparing a baby shower might take a great deal of preparation and work, particularly when taking into consideration which foods to serve. Hopefully, these tips will help prepare a spread that everybody will appreciate.

Educational games for kids under the age of three

Posted: Jan 31, 2012 |Comments: 0

]]>

Kids under three are bursting with energy and enthusiasm for the world around them. At this age, problem solving, social, cognitive and motor skills are developed through playing. As a parent, your involvement in play is important and will have an impact on your child's development. With a little creativity and imagination, you can incorporate items you have in your household, such as cups, bowls and food, into games that your child will enjoy and learn from.
Dance with Music

Dancing to music improves gross motor skills and increases physical activity. Additionally, emotional and social development occurs as your young child expresses her feelings through music and dance and learns to cooperate and interact with others.

Dancing to songs, such as the Hokey Pokey or the Itsy Bitsy Spider, will teach your child to listen and follow directions. These types of songs also help your child understand the connection between words and actions. Younger children can be carried around as you dance. As your child gets older, dancing can become a fun, interactive activity. Any type of music is fun for kids to dance to, so get a variety of music and dance away.

]]>

You can enhance your child's creativity by making musical instruments from various items around the house. For example, empty containers can become drums. If you don't have anything to create instruments with, imaginary instruments can be just as effective.
Puppets

You can purchase puppets at the store or make them out of old socks and buttons. Your child can be creative with his puppets by inventing voices and characters for them. Playing with puppets will help your child learn new vocabulary words and also help her develop language and listening skills. You child will also work on his social skills through cooperation and playing with others. Very young children can develop their visual accuracy and speed by following the puppet's movements. Older children will improve their finger and hand coordination by manipulating the puppets.
Play Dough

Play dough helps children develop their motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Babies and toddlers will enjoy squishing it around. As your child grows, she can explore her creativity by making objects out of it. Using rollers and cutters on the dough will help develop fine motor skills. You can build communication skills with your child by discussing what he has created.

This play dough recipe will encourage your young child to explore shaping objects while using her senses, because the dough will have the color and smell of Kool-Aid.   http://www.giftsparadise.ca

Homemade Baby Blanket

]]>

When you put the words homemade and baby together one of the things that first springs to mind is a baby blanket.  It's one of the simplest things to make for a new baby because it's a straight sided flat piece of fabric.  In fact it's a perfect activity to do as a first project for anyone, even if you don't have a baby you can always make one and give it to someone.

There are a whole host of different ways to make a baby blanket, some really simple and some much more challenging.  You can choose from different materials and techniques to suit you, most people are drawn to one thing or another.

A really simple design that I saw someone do was to use a piece of fleece cut to the right size, the edge was blanket stitched and then they cut out a picture from a few pieces of different coloured fleece and sewed it on to the corner of the blanket, there was also an option of embroidering the baby's name on to it, if you know who it's for and you want to personalise it.  This simple idea is really cutting out, assembling and a bit of stitching.  It is often very cheap to buy fleece and sometimes even cheaper to buy an adult fleece blanket and use it as fabric.

]]>

If you want to go down the wool route, you can knit or crochet a baby blanket.  This can be done simply using one stitch back and forth or for a bit more interest you can knit or crochet squares and then stitch them together into a patchwork.   You can look out for current trends and see what is in fashion in the craft world.

Again a more simple approach to a baby blanket would be to cut out a piece of fabric and simply line it and edge it.  But like the wool design you could do a fabric patchwork affect with a range of different fabrics and then line and quilt it.

You can use books to learn these craft skills but it can often be complicated to understand, especially if you are not familiar with the terms they use.  I have always found it much easier to get someone to show me how to do something, it is much more visual and if you go wrong they can probably see and sort it out for you until you get the hang of it.

Once you have mastered a baby blanket you can move on to more complicated projects like clothing and soft toys.  Of course there are many other things that aren't baby related that you can move on to like cushions, curtains and shopping bags.  But I do think there is something lovely about a homemade item for a baby, it is special and unique and hopefully something that they will treasure for years to come.

Baby Blankets and Travel Wraps

When I had my children I was given loads of baby blankets and some I bought, they were all, really useful and apart from the cosy toes that I had with the pram I bought, that was the only thing I had to use to keep my babies warm in the pram and car seat. I never really thought of looking for anything else.

New Baby Products

When I had my babies I was surrounded by information about the baby products that were available, they were things like buggies, prams, reusable nappies, cots, travel cots etc. There were many choices to make about the brands, colours and designs to choose. Not having the internet or knowing about things like baby shows, I was quite unaware of many of many new products. I settled with a few basic items and got on with it!

Pram Accessories

Baby prams have been around for hundreds of years and some of the features that you find on prams today are not unlike the ones from the Victorian times. Of course the accessories that go with prams have also developed and increased in numbers as the years have gone by with things such as, buggy boards, and clips for shopping bags, sun shades and baby mobiles.

I Love Baby Blankets

I am a sucker for fabric and always have been, I cannot resist a fabric shop and I always have to pop in and have a look around and I always end up buying a metre of fabric, buttons or ribbon. I never need to have a reason or a use for it; I just can't leave without it. In fact even if I have a project that I want to use it for, I find it difficult to cut up.

I have never really made a firm decision about having more children and I had never given it much thought, I have my two children and we have enough room and money for them so it seemed natural to stop at two. Now they are a bit older, I am really glad to have some of my independence back and my children are past the stage where there is a lot of work involved and are fairly independent.

As aunts, uncles, grannies and grandfathers or even close friends it's always difficult to know what to buy as a gift for a new baby. You often become very out of touch with the latest trends and fashions, if your own children are grown up and I think most people want to know that their gift is useful or something that is really wanted.

Everything You Need to Know About Baby-Shower Etiquette

Posted: Jan 30, 2012 |Comments: 0

]]>

Throwing a baby shower is such an intimate and wonderful honor.  It  shows the mother-to-be your commitment and excitement for her experience.  She will be thrilled and excited for the new addition to the family.  A baby shower should be fun, so if you are feeling a little stressed or unsure of the process, read below for your one-stop shop baby shower etiquette lesson.  You will feel more at ease and comfortable to be hosting.

Who hosts the baby shower?

A baby shower can be hosted by anyone other than the mother-to-be and her mother.  Historically, the shower was hosted by someone outside the family, but today, a sister, aunt, best friend, coworker or anyone else can take the honor of hosting the shower.

When do you throw a baby shower?

It is advised to host the baby shower 2-3 months before the due date of the mother to be.  This way you are not too close to the due date in the event that the mother-to-be delivers early.  This also allows the mother time  to make exchanges or returns on items, purchase items needed that were not given at the shower, as well as give the parents time to decorate and display gifts in the baby's room.

Where do you host a baby shower?

]]>

Today, a baby shower can be held pretty much anywhere: a home, restaurant, country club, church, outdoor park or backyard.  Please keep in mind the weather and time of day as important factors in considering a place to host.  Suggestions indicate that hosting at a home is the most preferred and comforting place for a baby shower.

Who do I invite to the shower?

This is a very intimate and special occasion, I recommend that you speak to the mother-to-be or her mother to attain a guest list of all those that she would want to share this experience with.  This will allow you to avoid overlooking any guests that the mother-to-be would want there.  You will want to consider availability and schedules of guests to ensure that you pick a date that will work for them.  Historically, baby showers were women only, but now-of-days it is fine to invite men to the event.  Just keep in mind that allowing men could change the atmosphere of the girl bonding experience, as well as might be uncomfortable for men.  In some cases, men would arrive near the end of the shower to congratulate the mother-to-be and help carry out gifts.

Who pays for the shower?

Customarily, the person hosting the shower will pay for the event.  However, to be more budget friendly it is perfectly alright to have multiple people throw the shower together and split the cost.

What baby shower gifts does one bring?

Bringing a gift to a shower is encouraged.  Most of the gifts are practical gifts, such as: diapers, formula, clothes or anything that is essential for a new mom to have.  Ask the mother-to-be if she has a registry.  This will make it easy for you to know what she needs and wants.  If there is no registry, you can always ask the mother, sister or host what recommendations that they would have.  You can also get a pampered gift, such as a spa treatment, lotions or bath salts for the mother-to-be.  She will be thrilled and in desperate need of pampering after the birth.  There is no wrong gift, it is the thought that counts and trust me, she will use everything she receives.

Just remember that a baby shower is such a special gift to the mother-to-be.  Don't sweat the small stuff, just the fact that you made it happen shows your thoughtfulness and love.  She will adore anything and everything that you have done for her.  So give yourself a pat on the back, relax and have fun.

Choosing a Daycare Nursery : Checklist

What sort of nursery do I want for my child?

Personal recommendations are an excellent place to start your choice of nursery for your child. Nurseries come in all shapes and sizes, so making the right choice means you have to weigh up lots of factors carefully. Speak to friends and family and pay potential nurseries a visit to see for yourself. These guidelines will help you establish your priorities as you embark on your search. They will also help you as make your visits.

It is important to see how a nursery operates and to understand why they work the way they do. For example, a large nursery with 40 children aged two to five in one room may sound chaotic. When you visit you should see if the children are split into smaller groups for activities and how they run their day in the room. Often large rooms such as this can be surprisingly quiet and parents like the idea of the younger children learning from the older ones – and having older ones look out for them. Children are separated by age from Primary 1, so there is a case for letting them mix while at nursery. Some nurseries are for just ten children while others have 60 and more. A small nursery may appeal, but they can be very quiet and not necessarily the ideal place for every child to spend their pre-school years. Primary 1 classes can have up to 30 children and this can be a big leap if a child has been in a class of just five or six children. Children can, of course, also thrive in a smaller setting.

Cleanliness is a big point for most parents. However, a nursery that is covered in sand or flour is not necessarily unclean. One reason for sending your child to a nursery is to let them to sit on the floor and play with a big bucket of cold spaghetti or splash water. Very few parents would allow their children to make a similar mess at home on such a regular basis. A nursery that is totally spotless, particularly at the end of the day, has clearly not been letting children enjoy these activities and, if it has, cleaning staff must have been working while children are being cared for. Cleaning after hours is obviously safer.

At least one member of staff should have a First Aid Certificate.

Ask about child ratios. The guidelines require:

1:3 for 0-2 years

Will your child be attached to a keyworker who will be your main contact and will keep you informed of your child's development?

Are the staff happy, relaxed, well presented, calm and confident?

Nursery policies

Will the nursery inform you if your child has been unhappy during the day?

What are the settling in procedures?

What are the nursery's policies on diet, allergies, potty training and discipline?

How does the nursery make sure its staff are fully aware of each child's individual medical needs?

How is difficult behaviour managed?

Are policies in place to deal with emergency procedures, injury and infectious illnesses?

Costs and extras

What will the charge be?

Can you have flexible hours or an hourly rate?

Are you charged during a holiday period?
