Need Some Baby Products?
Welcome to the world of buying baby products and congratulations! Believe it or not there are tons of options for things from diapers to strollers. Almost everything has gone digital now, except for the diapers, of course. With so much on the market at the moment it's easy to get sidetracked and buy baby products you don't need or else leave something important out. For Pete's sake, don't let it be the diapers!
Strollers will always be the baby's main mode of transportation and will help keep your arms the same length now that they were before your little bundle of joy came into your life. There are two types of strollers: the classic, luxury version and the economical, compact version. If you plan on taking mall trips or park excursions, go for the larger stroller. Many even come the option of converting into a car seat. The smaller and lighter strollers are great too because they are lighter. Also as your child grows up, if they are a girl, baby dolls can be carted around as well.
Diapers are every bit of a concern as well. Whether you decide to use cloth or disposable diapers there are things you need to consider. First off is again: lifestyle. True, cloth diapers are more environmentally friendly, but if baby goes to daycare, good luck with that one. Either way though, fit is a concern. The best way to check if the diaper you are using is too tight is to put two fingers in the waist band once the diaper is closed. If your fingers are snug, then that's a perfect fit. Next you want to check the legs. The bottom should be snug, but not restrictive. If your baby's legs are purple, the diaper is too tight.
Play pens will not only protect your baby, but protect your sanity. Laying your baby down on the floor where Balto can clean up baby's face, or clean out baby's diaper, is not a good idea. It's also drafty down there. A good idea in the world of baby products has come to light in the last 150 years. It's called a playpen. Use it well and use it often. All domestic playpens are baby tested and mother in-law approved. It will protect baby and give them much needed time to learn how to roll over and later "cruise". Plus it will keep Uncle Phil from stepping on your little one.
Your baby will need a bed too. As infants, bassinets are the preferred bed as they are more mobile than full on baby beds. You can move a bassinet from room to room while baby sleeps because no monitor is as good as having baby right there with you. When they are old enough to move into a baby bed, get a bed with high rails. This will keep your baby from escaping and making their own snacks between feedings. (RIGHT!)
Let's talk bedding now. Blankets are definitely needed. Not only do they say a lot about your status as being a good parent, but they can be used to keep baby warm; just not too warm. Blankets can be used for shade, insulation and often as last ditch clean up rags. You want to make sure that you are using the right blanket for the right temperature. Use lighter weight, lighter colored blankets for summer and heavier ones for the winter time. Make sure whichever blanket you use, it is light enough for baby to move out of its face if needed.
Bottles are very important. Even if the plan is to go "au natural" you will still need bottles for juice and the like. Mom is not a slurp-ee machine you know. In all truthfulness, design doesn't matter too much. When buying bottles, look into the nipple quality and never put the nipples in the dish washer. The synthetic "rubber" the nipple is made out of can become dry and brittle with prolonged exposure to heat.
Baby products have been developed enough over the years that there are probably more choices than what is healthy for a new parent's sanity. The best bet is to look at your own lifestyle and go from there. If you travel a lot with baby, think pockets. If you're homebodies, then think light. Either way, it's a learning experience and not one you'll ever get back when it's done, so enjoy!
