The standard baby blanket has been around for years and they are still very popular products around today, a simple square or rectangle of fabric that you lay over the baby to keep them warm. It is what most people think of when they are planning the equipment they will need for their new baby and is also a popular choice of baby gift. It is certainly something that I had many versions of when my babies were born and I used them in the buggy, car seat, bouncy chair and in the cot. I felt I could never have too many baby blankets because there was always one to hand and always one spare if I had to put one in the wash.
I always felt that I had what I needed and had never had any problems, however, when my daughter was about 2 I was really struggling to keep her warm in her pushchair on the school run, it was always at the time when she was having a sleep. I started using a larger adult blanket and tucked it in around her but it kept coming un tucked and falling down under the wheels.

It wasn't until a friend of mine told me about a new clever baby blanket that was a perfect solution to my problems. It was a wrap that fitted into the buggy and the straps that feed through the holes. You put the baby in and then wrap them up. Even better it was a small local company and I was able to try one out before I bought it.
It means they get covered all the way round and there is a hood which keeps their head warm and the blanket can't fall off and go under the wheels because they are effectively sitting on it. It was an absolutely fantastic solution to the problem I had been having with my standard baby blanket. At the age of 2 my daughter really was too big for the product and we couldn't use the hood because she was too tall. But the rest of it worked brilliantly and totally made my life easier. I only wished that I had known about these products years before. It would have made such a difference right from when she was born because I wouldn't have had to put her in thick snowsuits and coats when were going out, it also meant if the temperature warmed up you could just unwrap them instead of getting them out to take their coat off.
In essence it is still and a baby blanket but a very clever one, designed exactly for its purpose and it is one of those things that you can't believe someone didn't think of earlier. Of course it is designed by a mum who was having exactly the problem that I was, so it works perfectly.

Baby Blankets and Travel Wraps
When I had my children I was given loads of baby blankets and some I bought, they were all, really useful and apart from the cosy toes that I had with the pram I bought, that was the only thing I had to use to keep my babies warm in the pram and car seat. I never really thought of looking for anything else.

I love baby blankets; they are the sort of thing that makes you think of warm snugly homely thoughts. When my babies were born I was inundated with them, I had fleece ones, I had a lovely homemade knitted one with a silky lining. I have a couple of big ones that I bought to go in the cot and matched the bedding and nursery. My granny also gave me a couple that were from charity shops and they were homemade ones.

When your Babies have Grown Up
You can never underestimate the amount of baby stuff a new baby brings into your home, all the normal stuff such as prams, cots, change mats etc but then you also add bouncy chairs, walkers, bouncers that hang from the door, baby carriers, car seats, high chairs, baby baths, blow up rings and feeding pillows, the list is just endless. My house felt like it was half the size and it was hard to get around without walking into something or tripping over.

Now it's getting colder all our thoughts have started to turn to keeping warm. I know that when I go shopping and I am feeling hungry I end up buying too much food. Then the cold weather comes and I start looking for jumpers and warm winter rugs to curl up on the sofa with. Mums do the same thing for their children; they want to snuggle them up in a warm baby blanket especially when they are out and about.

Pink for Girls & Blue for Boys
Traditionally pink has been for girls and blue for boys, but why did this start and where did it come from? Is it still true today that people still want a pink baby blanket for their daughter and blue baby blanket for their son? I have researched this a bit and there is no clear answer, is it just that girls are drawn to pink and boys are drawn to blue?

When I am at the baby show I often talk to customers about the many benefits of using our product in the car, one of them is because it protects your car seat by acting as a car seat cover and allowing you to wash the wrap instead of having to take car seats apart. The parents that have had to do this will totally understand what a complete nightmare it is to take the cover off wash and then work out which straps go where to get it back on before realising that the straps are twisted!

There are so many things to think about when you are having a baby and one of them is thinking about what do I need for a new baby. It can be quite over whelming but there are many things that you don't need to worry about to start with. The main things you need to get are clothing, nappies (either disposable or cloth) a pram, car seat and a cot for them to sleep in and bedding.

When you have been to the seaside with young children for the day you will quickly realise what a fantastic product a beach wrap is. When your children come out of the sea and want to play on the sand they don't want to get dressed because they might want to go back in the sea. A great way to keep them warm and dry while they are playing is to put them in a beach wrap. It's a kid's towel that goes over their swimming costumes a bit like a dressing gown.
