Joovy Caboose Stroller – Helping Young Families to Get Out and About
Joovy, a stroller manufacturer from Dallas Texas, is known for creating innovative strollers that are light in weight and heavy in features. They use aircraft-grade all aluminum tubing for all of their stroller frames and they use modern rip-stop nylon material for their stroller seats and canopies.
The stroller that we are reviewing today is the Caboose stroller from Joovy. The caboose is built for two children and is quite unique in that, for a double stroller, it’s pretty compact which makes it a highly maneuverable stroller. The Joovy Caboose stroller is actually a stroller and a half. The rear seat is a rear-facing jump seat that folds up and out of the way so that a child, 2 ½ years or older can ‘stand’ on the rear platform. There are two padded handles that are ideally located for the rear standing passenger – so your youngster can hold on and safely stand and ride.
The Joovy Caboose stroller is not for every family. If you have two children the same age you’ll face a difficult peace-keeping challenge... determining who gets to stand and who has to ride. If, however, you have two young children who are about 2 to 3 years apart and who each weigh less than 45 pounds, you’ll love this stroller. Your younger child can sit safely upfront while your older child can opt to either sit or stand in the back of the stroller.
The Caboose stroller has some great features. The front seat accommodates numerous types of infant car seats so you can start using the Caboose stroller when your ‘little one’ is very young. The front seat also has two relining positions, a child tray with cup holders, and the seat also sports a 5-point safety harness. Your child will definitely be both safe and comfortable in the Caboose stroller.
Earlier I mentioned the rear jump seat… for the rear passenger’s safety there’s a 3-point safety harness for your seated child and there’s a non-skid surface on the platform for your standing child.
There’s a large canopy for the Caboose stroller’s front passenger. The canopy provides ample protection for your child from direct sunlight and wind. The canopy can also be removed to maximize visibility. Joovy uses rip-stop material that will last a long time – you’re stroller will look and run great for years to come. Additionally, Joovy incorporates reflective material in the canopy that will help you be seen when strolling after dark.
Parents with multiple children know all too well that in order to get your young family out and about, you have to carry a lot of gear. The Caboose stroller addresses this issue in two ways. First, the Caboose has an extra large storage basket where you can easily store a diaper bag, groceries, etc. Second, the Caboose stroller folds up quite easily into a compact form factor. The folded dimensions are 10.5” x 24” x 43” which means that the Caboose stroller will most likely fit into your car’s trunk or into your minivan without any problems.
Because the Caboose stroller is compact, because it only weighs 26 pounds, and because it has swivel wheels that are built with sealed ball bearings, you and your child will get a very smooth ride. The dimensions of the unfolded stroller are 41.5” x 21.5” x 38”.
The Stroller Shop recommends the Caboose stroller to families with young children. I wish that I knew about this stroller when my daughter was young. I don’t have multiple children but both my daughter and I would have loved the sit and stand options. The Caboose stroller actually makes strolling fun.
