When a child comes into a woman's life, especially if it's her first baby, she'll be facing a great deal of changes. Her body will never be the same, no matter how many crunches she does. A simple shopping trip has to be planned with military precision to fit around feeds and naps and bathroom breaks; and her wardrobe of fine clothes will be relegated to the 'maybe not, it might get puked on/pooped on/spit up on' pile.
With so much for an expectant mother to deal with, there's one thing she shouldn't have to worry about - the baby shower! This is where girlfriends come in. If you're hosting, planning or attending a baby shower, here are some games and ideas to guarantee a fun time for all.
Guess the size of the baby bump
This is a baby shower favorite with guests and mommies-to-be. Before the party, measure around the expectant mother's baby bump with a piece of string, and cut to size. When the guests arrive, give each of them some string and ask them to guess how big the 'baby bump' is. Compare everyone's string length with the actual size. Whoever guesses closest wins a prize.

There are many variations of this game but the principals are still the same. You can use a jar full of safety pins, or a tub full of first size diapers, or even a large box of baby socks. As it all goes to the expectant mommy anyway, anything baby related works, and doubles up as being useful. Guests try to guess the quantity and the closest wins a small prize.
Guess what
Blindfold the mommy and place a bag of baby items in front of her. They can be as simple or as fancy as you like. The mommy has to guess what each item is. It'll stand her in good stead for those nights she's bound to spend fumbling around in the dark looking for a misplaced pacifier/comforter/cuddly toy etc.
Pin the baby on the bump (or the sperm on the egg)
Another game that can be varied, this bases itself on the childhood game of Pin the tail on the Donkey. Draw a pregnant woman on a poster board, then either draw or print out some babies. Blindfold each guest and, using tape, ask him or her to stick the baby on the pregnant belly. A variation is drawing an 'egg' on the board and having cut out 'sperm' for guests to pin on it. The closest to the mark wins a prize.
A day in the life of baby
Although not strictly a game, this is a great idea to ensure the mommy-to-be doesn't get hundreds of the same gift. When guests accept the invitation to the baby shower, allocate them a 'baby time of the day', for example bath time, feed time, cuddle time, nap time, story time etc. The party guest then needs to buy a gift that relates to that time, such as blankets, bottles, bath products.
